Star Design
Star Design was founded in 1989 in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, producing bespoke carved and etched glass for discerning residential, commercial, and yacht environments. After relocating to North Carolina in 1992, the studio continued to expand in scale and reach.
Today, glass art by “Star” resides in luxury homes, architectural spaces, and cruise ships around the world. All crafted entirely by hand and available only in extremely limited production.

About the Artist
A Skill Built Through Experience
For about 40 years, Michael Ray has refined the art of hand-carved glass, developing a body of work recognized for its precision, depth, and sculptural elegance. His early exploration of multiple glass disciplines led him to carving, a medium capable of producing the dimensional detail and visual impact he sought.
He etched his first glass in 1977 at Sunshine Boys (Miami, Fl). Then worked independently until Chrysalis Art Glass (Winston Salem, NC). He was employed at Carved Glass Inc and Designer Glass Studio (Pompano Beach, Fl) for a few years.
About The Process
It begins with you
Your ideas and space are the catalyst. Drawings are made for your approval, and a sample is made if needed. When a deposit is paid, the actual size layout is created, (usually drawn by hand). The glass is prepared by applying a resist (masking material) to surface. The layout is transferred to the resist and then cut with an Exacto knife by hand. The glass is taken into the sandblasting booth where it is carved. Special enhancements such as translucent or opaque colors are added if desired.
No plotters or CNC machines are used are used in this studio.
Note- Tempered safety glass CAN be carved.

There are very few artists working at this level today—and fewer each year. Current technology cannot replicate this process. Artificial intelligence did not generate this website or its images. It was built by hand, from a blank page, with the same care and intention applied to the work itself.
