The pieces you see here are relief carved. The design is raised on the front surface, so it is actually dimensional. The paints are translucent.

These carved and painted art glass panels change appearance in different lighting and will look different as the day and night pass.

They do not require special lighting, in fact; the best effect, is when the lighting is low. The glass reflects the light from within and appears to be glowing with a life of it's own.
